Hi, just today I was giving lightning a bath and I noticed the Formal Pores on his thighs. I was wondering if they are supposed to look the way that they do and if there is anything I can do if they are not normal. The photos are of the Formal Pores on this underside.

It does appear that Lightning’s pores may be a bit enlarged. This can be normal but if there is a lot of material in there or he is painful when you touch the area he may need to seen. Normal femoral pores may protrude during mating season and appear much larger than usual. The “plugs” in the pore openings sometimes look like horny protrusions in larger reptiles such as iguanas. An impacted pore is when there is fluid seeping out around the plugs, the pore is red or swollen, or they seem to be sore to the touch. If you suspect your reptile has impacted femoral pores you should have him checked out by a reptile vet.
