My cat stepped in peppermint oil spray. Is he okay after wiping paws?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year and 3 months old | 7 lbs

I saw a bug in my home so I sprayed peppermint oil (Rodent Sheriff) outside my room door. I heard my cat outside my door. I do not know if the oil was completely dry when he walked up to my door. Dry or not, he stepped in it. Is he going to be okay? I wiped his paws with water to help get rid of it. Was that okay? Fyi: please see attached photo for the ingredients of the spray.

There is not a large amount of peppermint oil in this spray, and water is the first ingredient, so that means the peppermint oil is diluted. This lessons any toxic effects. Because you wiped Storm's paws with water after he stepped in it, he should be just fine :-)
