My dog's paw has a painful brown bump. What is this tender red spot?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Female | unspayed | 9 years and 4 months old | 44 lbs

Hi and thank you for reading this. I discovered a weird brown spot on my dog's back paw. Upon closer inspection its kind of a solid bump, covered in brown/black skin and is surrounded by redness. It is very tender and the dog flinches at the slightest touch of it, but is able to walk perfectly fine. She has all vaccines and no prior serious medical history. How worried should I be? Can I do something for her right now or should I run to the vet as fast as I can? What could it be? Thanks ahead.

As this mass or spot is in an area of the body where we do see melanomas and other masses and where there is not a lot of extra skin, I suggest you have this examined ASAP by your veterinarian. This may be just a little skin infection easily treated with antibiotics, however in case it is a tumor, the smaller the mass the easier it is removed and the better and quicker it heals.
