My new kitten has an eye cold. What can I do before a vet visit?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 6 days old

I just got a new kitten. She was born May 20th, very active, eating well, and using the litter box, however. I clean her eyes often bc she has cold in them. I can't afford a vet until next week. Anything I should know? Please help!

Congratulations on your new cat Trixy! 'Cold' in the eye is often viral. While you should take her to the vet next week for a check up and to update any needed preventive care you can give her 500mg of Lysine twice daily. You can usually find this product in pet stores or online. Humans take it too but the cat formulas are likely more palatable. I hope this helps!
