My dog is shivering and tired. What could be wrong with him?

Your poor pup sounds ill! Without seeing him in person, I can't say what is causing his symptoms, but it could be due to a systemic infection or injury to name a few things. The best thing to do for him is to take him into a vet as soon as possible. I hope this helps!

Poor Polar. The shivering could be from pain or he could have a fever. You should have him examined by a vet to determine the cause. Your vet can run blood work if needed and then determine the best way to treat. He might need an antibiotic and/or pain medications to treat.

Trembling and shaking could indicate pain and/or anxiety. Your dog may need veterinary attention since this is an abrupt change in his behavior. If you are concerned enough to ask the question, it's worth getting him checked to find out what is wrong and how to treat it.

Hi there. While it is not abnormal for Charlie to be lethargic and behave differently when everyone leaves-this is a bit much. I would recommend taking him in to your veterinarian in case something else is going on. Pancreatitis, intoxication, and a few other diseases can start with this presentation. Shivering in dogs is often a pain response (can also be nervousness, cold, etc). If these behaviors continue I recommend taking him in as soon as you can to try to prevent it from getting worse. Shaking can be a sign of pain, fever, nausea or dehydration. If you haven’t had your dog examined by a vet since he ran away I think you should to make sure he isn’t painful or dehydrated. They can also take his temperature to make sure he doesn’t have a fever.

In some cases, dogs exposed to the canine distemper virus can have muscle tremors as a residual side effect from the virus. Based on Chance's history of being adopted, with a likely unknown history, it may be a good idea to bring him in for an examination by his veterinarian. Alternatively, it is possible that your dog is having a seizure like event. If he is otherwise acting normal and these events are infrequent you could continue to monitor him. Hello, sorry to hear about your pup. There are several causes for increased drinking and decreased appetite. However, it may be that he is just a bit cold. Some other causes could include anxiety. Finally underlying metabolic diseases such as kidney disease, cushings, hypothyroidism, or other forms of GI disease may cause this as well. If he continues to do this then he should be evaluated by a veterinarian. Diagnostics may include bloodwork, an abdominal x-ray, or even an ultrasound. Hope this helps and best of luck.
