Why is my cat peeing on the bed after grooming? How do I stop it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 19 lbs

My cat was groomed and shaved one day ago due to dandruff and matted hair. He has now urinated on our bed twice. Once while we weren't watching and again in the night while we were sleeping. I assume it is behavioral. But what can we do to stop it? I showed him his litter box in case he forgot, I've been giving him attention to help him feel better because he is hiding a significant amount of time now.

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Poor Louie! if this JUST started after the grooming one day ago, then I would confine him to a small room with his litter box, food and water. I would buy a Feliway diffuser to help calm him down. Clean your bed well with an enzymatic pet cleaner like Nature's Miracle or Anti-Ichy Poo. Then keep your door closed for a while. Once he seems to have calmed down, in 7-14 days and is using the litter box in the room, let him back out. Keep your bedroom door closed. I think if you nip this in the bud quickly it won't be more complicated than that. Good luck! https://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=8906
