Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 3 years old | 13 lbs

Is it possible that my dog only had one flea , I found it 3 days ago and killed it that same day I cut her hair extremely short first and gave her a fleabath, put flea medicine on her then began to cut her hair again and I happened to find the flea it was very slow as if the bath and medicine effected it so I was able to catch it I even broke it apart with my nail and it didn’t have any blood in it, I let her back into my house to sleep,I searched for more and found nothing she also shows nosign

Hello, Luna may have had a single exposure as the fleas will die from the flea medication. Since she is protected, you should continue to monitor her coat for any additional fleas. Its likely that you have fleas in your yard and home, so in addition, you should spray your yard and home with flea insecticide to reduce the flea load in your environment. Hope this helps and best of luck.
