My dog's pointy ears get brown scabs and dips every summer. Why?

Hank has big pointy ears. Every year around summer time the tops of them get brown and get scabs. One ear even looks like it has a deep dip in it. He’s an inside dog and only goes out to use the bathroom maybe 4-5 times a day and is only out for maybe 10-15 mins tops each time. He has a flea bath once a month and I never see a single flea on him. I don’t know what it causing this. Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 4 months old | 12 lbs

There could be a few different things going on. I would first have a vet skin scrape him to make sure there are no mites. I would also recommend Simparica, Nexguard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention. The reason being is they can also be used to help treat mites if that is the cause.
