My dog won't eat after vet visit for inflamed stomach. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Goldendoodle | Male | neutered | 3 years and 6 months old | 36 lbs

My dog has refused to eat and has barely drank in two days . Took him to the vet and they said his intestines and stomach were inflamed. They have him a shot of cerebral and sent us home with cerebral pills. He still won’t eat. Is this normal?

Poor Crosby! I'm sorry to hear that he's having this problem. I'm assuming you mean that he got a shot of Cerenia, and Cerenia tablets to go home? If he still isn't eating, no - this is not normal, and would make me very suspicious that something is seriously wrong. I would recommend taking him back to the vet for a recheck, as it sounds like he needs some additional diagnostic testing to help find the problem. Depending on what has been done already, this might include blood work and abdominal x-rays/ultrasound.
