My dog has mild IVDD, is lethargy and bloating normal after Rimadyl?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed

Hello, my dog had a very painful spinal attack a few days ago, we took her to the vet and they diagnosed her very mild ivdd. She can walk completely normally and doesn’t seem to be in pain anymore. She is on rimadyl and probiotics for a few days. However she seems lethargic, sleeping all the time, not her usual self. She also seems to be a bit bloated, otherwise she eats and drinks very well. Thank you for your answer!

She could be a little lethargic just from the stress and also from the rimadyl. I would continue to keep her confined and don't let her jump, play, or run. Rimadyl can cause them to be lethargic sometimes - it isn't very common, but I have a few patients who react this way. If she starts to worry you, stops eating/drinking or starting to not be walking properly, I would have your vet take another look at her. I hope that helps!
