Pumpkin is great for forming stool and as part of a bland diet. I do think that it does help in a bland diet speaking from personal experience with my own pet. Typically, for a dog Smokey's size, I would recommend adding 1 tsp to each meal. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.

Hello, congratulations on your new puppy. Plain raw, canned, pumpkin is sage to give and will cause more fiber intake and thus more bulky stools. This can be given with every meal. Not all GI upsets will respond to additional fiber supplement, so if ever his signs are not improving, you should have your veterinarian evaluate your puppy. Other common causes of GI upset in puppies that are not responsive to fiber include parasite infections, parvovirus, and some inflammatory diseases or dietary indiscretions. If doubtful about giving pumpkin and your puppy's signs, you may always consult with your veterinarian or post a question on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach for an expert to help you with. Hope this helps and best of luck.
