My senior dog has a prostate mass. Is it always a tumor or just a mass?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 15 years old | 46.5 lbs

Hi, I have a 15year old indie mix breed dog, not neutered been diagnosed with mass in prostrate, biopsy not done. His symptoms limping with hind limb, straining while urinating and passing stool In constant pain around prostate mass and hip bones Vet suggested it’s a 80*88mm tumor and can’t be treated due to surgery so should be put to sleep Please advise as there is no blood in urine and no weight loss yet is there a possibility of that this isn’t tumor and just a mass

I'm sorry Bruno is sick! Unfortunately in a dog his age, a malignant tumor is always high on the list of potential causes. Senior dogs are prone to cancer. You can ask the vet to do a biopsy to make sure it's a tumor for sure, but that would be my guess. I'm sorry i don't have better news for you. Best of luck.
