Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. In pugs, this is a normal thing to see. There is increased pigmentation (melanin) deposited on the eye. Pugs can develop pigmentary keratitis, in which a dark film develops over the eye itself. This does not cause any pain and unfortunately there is nothing you can do to make this go away or slow down the progression. If the eye becomes irritated, you can use steroid drops. Something that a vet would need to prescribe Dexter after examining him. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.

If the brown area is on the sclera only and does not affect the cornea at all it is probably normal pigment and nothing to be concerned about. This is common in brachycephalic breeds. The discharge could be from irritation caused by hairs rubbing near the eye, a blocked tear duct, conjunctivitis, or even dry eye or a corneal ulcer. If the eye seems at all red or irritated I would recommend seeing a veterinarian as soon as you can. Otherwise it is probably okay to continue to monitor as long as it is a small amount of clear discharge.

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. These brown spots are likely from her eyes draining. This breed is known for tear staining and this can become a common thing to see. It does not cause them any harm bit can be unsightly for some dog owners. Products such as Ocubright and Angel Eyes can help decrease the staining. If she is rubbing her eyes or her eyes look red, the brown spots could be from an eye infection, and I would recommend that you have her examined by a veterinarian to see what the cause is of the eyes are irritated. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.

This needs to be examined by your veterinarian as this could be a tumor, Another condition that can cause this is Keratitis sicca or dry eye, which is quite common in Shih Tzus. Both conditions need urgent care, so please see your veterinarian ASAP.
