My cat's ear got cut during neutering. How do I prevent infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 9 lbs

My cat got his ear clipped off when he got neutered because they thought he was a feral cat. It started bleeding and now it’s all dried up. How should I take care of it so he won’t get infected? Thank you

You likely don't need to do anything to Purrcy's ear as they can typically heal the wound without any help. Watch it for any redness, swelling or discharge. If you want to apply a topical antibiotic you will need to put an elizabethan collar on Purrcy so that he cannot rub it off and then ingest it while grooming. If it starts looking infected, take him into the vets for antibiotics. It will likely heal within 10-14 days. I hope this helps!
