My kitten's hair is up & she bites. Is this normal kitten behavior?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Female | unspayed | 3 months old | 3 lbs

My kitten's hair is always standing up. There is no prey around. Is it normal? How do I get her hair to deflate? She also doesn't like to be carried or pet. When I put my hand near her, she will just bite it playfully. What do I do?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. This can be normal for long-haired kittens. As she grows and gets her adult coat, it will start looking less silly. Playful biting is also normal for kittens. I recommend getting her a toy or two that is appropriate for her to bite and claw at. This will decrease anxiety, decrease biting at you, and strengthen your bond with each other. Best of luck to you and Jandi!
