Why doesn't my senior cat meow? Is it normal for quiet cats?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 13 years and 10 months old | 12 lbs

My 14 year old male cat never "Meows" I've had many cats in my life and they all "talked", but not my "Moxie" Can you give me any info? Thank you.

Oh my, Moxie is so handsome! Some cats are simply quieter than others, and it could simply be in his nature not to meow. Just like humans, cats have different personalities, and he could be more of an introvert who doesn't have much to say. If he has always been this way, then it's not something to worry about at all. Some cats are simply quieter than others. I have a cat that very rarely meows, but that doesn't mean she can't do it. It could be that Sophie isn't highly vocal. It could be that she is lonely now that the other cats are no longer living with you, and that's why she's started yowling. It can also be a sign of a medical illness, such as hyperthyroidism and kidney disease which can be common in senior cats. I'd take her into the vet for a health check this week. I hope this helps!

Uli has never meowed. At most she will occasionally squeak or emit a small cry. Most of the time she is mute. Is this normal? She was raised in a shelter from age 17 days to 3.5 months
Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your question. Not all cats will vocalize and some can be very quiet. This does not indicate she is dealing with an illness. As long as her energy level is normal, is eating / drinking normal amounts and urinating / defecating ok I would not be concerned. If there are any other changes that indicate she is sick (inappetance, vomiting, diarrhea, sneezing, coughing, etc.) I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. My cat said miaw without sound ??? Can some doctor explain me this
Cats have all different 'Meows" just like humans. some are loud and some make the motions with their mouths but no sounds come out. As long as this is how Enzou has always been and assuming that he is healthy, this is not a concern. If this is a new development or if he is sick, have him examined by the veterinarian. I would not worry if Sagan doesn't have a voice all the time. Yes, siamese cats can be very vocal but there could always be that one that isn't. They can also have a raspy meow. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.

My 17 year old male cat has no sound when he trys to meow.
Poor Bullwinkle! I would recommend taking Bullwinkle to the vet for a good exam. Sometimes loss of voice is associated with hyperthyroidism but also irritation of the throat and mouth. It is important an older can has a good exam and possible blood work to help determine the cause. Hope Bullwinkle is feeling better soon

I'd keep an eye on Charlie for now. If his meow stays different over the next 48 hours or he develops other signs like lethargy, sneezing, coughing, nasal discharge, or a loss of appetite, then I'd have him seen by a vet.

Moxie is such a handsome boy! While older cats do slow down as they age and sleep more, it can also be an indication of an illness. The best thing to do is have him checked out by a vet, and I would take him into the vet this week for a check up. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Hi, some cats don’t meaw , they just don’t feel the need as they communicate through body posture, through ears and tail positioning and thanks to pheromones. By looking at her, she looks like a domestic shorthair.. so not s specific breed but so pretty anyway ! I think the name really sweets her too ! Hope this helps, thank you for using Boop by Petco.
