Kitten has wolf worm, vet closed. Is it contagious to other pets?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 2 lbs

10-12 week old kitten with what appears to be a wolf worm. Stopped by local vet and got a steroid shot but kitten hasn’t been seen by a vet. Vet is not open again until Monday. What should I do? And can the wolf worm be transmitted to other animals. This kitten is usually outside but we brought her in to be more comfortable. I have other animals inside and don’t want them to be exposed.

I would recommend finding a vet that would be able to see Pusheen. If it is a larvae from a bot fly this would need to be removed. The larvae have to be removed carefully since they can induce anaphylactic reactions if not. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
