My dog ate a cooked chicken bone. What symptoms should I watch for?

The bones typically pass but depending on how well they were chewed and broken. The larger pieces may cause an obstruction while the smaller ones can cause inflammation and bloody diarrhea. You should watch for vomiting and diarrhea, with blood. if that is noted, then I would have your vet check him to make sure things are passing normally and he doesn't require hospitalization or assists.

Monitor for vomiting, constipation, blood in the stools and lack of appetite, if any of them are showing these symptoms- take them to the vet ASAP in order to be checked and treated for a possible obstruction or foreign body ingestion.

Most likely with a chicken bone, Hay's stomach acid will break down and digest the bone well enough that it will be able to pass and be pooped out. However, note that I said MOST LIKELY, not always or definitely. 2 reasons to be concerned: 1) There is a chance that a larger piece will pass through the stomach without breaking down and that could cause a blockage in the intestine that would require surgery to resolve. 2)The other concern is that with cooked bone, it can splinter and potentially puncture the stomach or intestine, leading to a deadly infection in the belly. These 2 worrisome scenarios are POSSIBLE, but they are not LIKELY. However, if he starts to vomit, passing stools with blood, or having difficulties to pass stools, you should take him to your local vets for an appointment right away.

While an immediate evaluation with your vet would be best, I recognize that that isn't always possible. The good news for your pup is that he's quite large, which generally leads to better success in passing bones through the stool. If you can't get to your vet right away, you can continue feeding him bulky food with bread, boiled chicken, or rice. I'd try to avoid the milk if possible since dairy products can cause stomach upset for many dogs. Chicken broth with the bread would be a better alternative. Keep a very close eye on his overall energy level, appetite, water consumption, vomiting, or diarrhea. It appears you didn't like my previous answer where I did give advice on what to do, including not inducing vomiting, monitoring him for signs of an obstruction, and giving him a half slice of whole wheat bread with every meal. That is the best advice I can give for this situation, and I suggest reading the answer again to follow the advice. You could take him into a vet immediately, and they can try to use an endoscope to remove the bone from his stomach now to prevent any chance of obstruction. It could take longer than 24 hours for the bone to pass, it may take as long as 72 hours or more. You will just honestly have to wait and see if it causes problems if you don't want to take Hay into a vet now. Best of luck.

I'm not sure how big Joey is, but in my experience it would be uncommon for a single chicken wing (or half of one) to cause any problems unless he's a very tiny dog. I would monitor him closely for the next couple of days for any signs of a problem - like repeated episodes of vomiting, acting lethargic, or not wanting to eat. These can be signs of an obstruction or damage to the intestines, so he should see a vet right away if you notice any problems. But as long as he's eating and drinking and acting normal, you shouldn't need to worry :)
