My older cat is copying the kitten's bad habits. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 9 months and 21 days old | 14 lbs

A few months ago we adopted an older cat, who was very well trained behaviorly. About a month ago, we adopted a kitten who is still being trained and socialized. They both get along well, but now our older cat is picking up on the kittens habits and misbehaving. I’m not sure if thats normal, and if its something we should be majorly concerned about or if it’ll go away within time.

I think the answer to this question depends on what habits your older cat is adopting. If it’s just behavioral things that aren’t a big deal I wouldn’t worry about it too much. But if it is things like inappropriate urination I would try to correct it as soon as possible.
