My kitten is sleeping a lot with diarrhea after a food change. Is this normal?

Hes just a little kitten so hes very hyper but today he has been sleeping a lot and his poop is runny amd very smelly. We changed his food today because his poop has been runny so we were trying to help it. Is there something wrong or am I just overreacting?

X is very cute! A sudden change in diet can cause diarrhea, so changing his food may add to the diarrhea. In kittens, a common cause of diarrhea is intestinal worms. I would give him a deworming treatment such as Panacur, which you can get from the vet. It's a three day course of treatment, and he will need a second course of treatment two weeks after the first ends to kill all the worms. If this doesn't help with the diarrhea or he's up to date on his deworming treatments, then I would have him seen by a vet. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Poor kitty. Sudden food changes can certainly cause a pet to have loose stool. Since you have dewormed then you can try giving Milo a bland diet of boiled plain chicken, tuna, or ground turkey and white rice to ease the stomach. You can also give probiotics --> https://www.chewy.com/purina-pro-plan-veterinary-diets/dp/49853 If this does not improve the stools within 3-4 days, then its best to get Milo seen by your vet for further testing (i.e. fecal exam) and treatment (i.e. antibiotics, etc). I have recently gotten 2 very young kittens-they are about 4-5 weeks old. (I thought mother had abandoned them.) they are about 4-5 weeks old. One has had one reg. bowel movement but for the most part bothhave diarrhea. I am feeding them with KMR kit
I would deworm them with Panacur. Intestinal worms are very common in kittens, causing diarrhea. You can get Panacur from your vets office. It’s a three day course of treatment that you will need to give again two weeks after the first ends. This kills all the worms. They should then be dewormed every two weeks until they are three months old, then monthly until six months of age, after which they should be dewormed every three months. If the Panacur doesn’t help with the diarrhea, I would take them into the vet for a health check. As a side note, they are now old enough for a kitten formulated food. I would start weaning them onto one. I hope this helps!

My 4months old kitty has developed diahrea over the last week.he has been vet checked and dewormed and first shot s. I have had him for 18days. He has been sampling my other cats food.should I be worried
There could be a couple of reasons why Rowan is having diarrhea. The change in diet (sampling the other cat's food) could be causing it. Kittens need to be dewormed regularly to prevent intestinal worms, so if he's only had one treatment with deworming medication, then worms could be the problem. Finally, it could be due to a GI illness, eating something rotten, or a foreign body. Given he's been having diarrhea over the last week, I would take him into the vet for exam. Diarrhea continuing longer than 24 hours should always being examined by a vet. The vet can diagnose the cause of the diarrhea and can treat him for it. I would take him into the vet in the morning. Hey, so I saw a vet on Monday with my now 10 week old kitten, he had a swollen bum and Diarrhoea, the vet gave him a worming tablet and the vet pro digestive function paste to help make his stools solid but thy have become more runny, is this normal?
Congrats on your new kitten, but I’m sorry Salem has diarrhea. If he had worms and was given a deworming treatment, then you can see more diarrhea due to the dead worms being passed. The diarrhea should improve, but if it doesn’t in the next 24-48 hours, then I would take him back into the vet. I hope this helps.

It could be that Ferdinand is suffering from intestinal worms. Those are very common in kittens, and if he is not up to date on his deworming treatments, I would pick one up for him. You will have to deworming him again in two weeks to make sure that all the worms are killed. If he is up to date on his deworming treatments, it could be he ate something rotten outside that upset his stomach when you weren't looking. In that case, I will give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps. Withhold food for 8-12 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Gizmo! A food change can cause diarrhea as can the following: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, protozoal infections. I would be sure he has been dewormed and bring a stools sample to your Vet. I would ask for a prescription canned food like Hill's i/d to feed him until the diarrhea resolves. If he is thin it is best to have your vet examine him to be sure he is healthy. I wish you and Gizmo the best!

Just adopted two new 8 week old kittens. The male is having loose stool but otherwise healthy rambunctious playful eating a ton etc. I have him solely on wet kitten food but it’s different from the fosters brand. Could this just be from change of die
Yes, it's possible that the loose stool could be due to the change in his diet. It's also possible that he may still have some intestinal parasites present even though he was dewormed, or he could have an intestinal infection or some other illness causing the diarrhea. If it does not improve in the next 24-48 hours, or if he starts to show any other symptoms such as vomiting, not eating, or acting lethargic, I would recommend taking him to the vet for an exam. He/she can do a fecal check under the microscope for parasites or other testing if needed, and will prescribe appropriate medication to treat the problem depending on what is found.

I rescued a kitten about ten ago hes about eleven weeks old, & hes recently started pooping himself several times daily. Hes still eating & playing. The only issue is his poop is runny. What should i do for this?
I'm glad to hear that Shadow is still eating and active despite his diarrhea. In a young kitten, parasites are one of the most common causes of diarrhea, but other causes could include viruses, an upset stomach due to sudden diet changes, among others. Ideally, I recommend taking Shadow to his vet for a physical exam and fecal flotation test to check for parasites. You can also give him deworming medication, such as pyrantel pamoate (available at most pet stores), which may treat roundworms and hookworms. It is important to note that not every parasite is treated by every dewormer, so it would be best to test his stool to determine if/which parasite(s) are present. You can also try offering a bit of boiled white meat chicken as a bland diet for a few days, then gradually mix the bland diet with Shadow's normal kitten food over another 5-7 days. Avoid offering any treats, milk, or table foods, as these could exacerbate his diarrhea. If he becomes lethargic, stops eating and drinking, or

Vaccines can give a kitten diarrhea for a day or two afterwards, and it's a good since that he is otherwise acting normal. It could also be that he has intestinal worms, and I would make sure he is up to date on his deworming treatments. Panacur is a brand I recommend to give to kittens, it's a three day course of treatment you can get OTC from a pet store or your vet's office. You would have to give Henry a second course of the treatment two weeks after the first ends to kill all the worms. He should then be dewormed every month until he is six months old, and then every three months thereafter. If he is up to date on his deworming treatments and the diarrhea doesn't clear up in 48 hours, then I would take him into the vet for an exam. You can try feeding him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts to see if that helps as well. There are many possible causes of diarrhea in kittens including worms, viruses and bacterial infections and poor digestion due to a weak gut lining. A full exam and fecal screen is often required in order to investigate fully. A bland, high quality kitten food (dairy free), worm dose and probiotic can all be considered as first line treatment but a full health check is required if not responding within 48hours or if they are weak
