My puppy ate a bully stick. What symptoms mean a quick vet visit?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 3 months old | 22.2 lbs

So Draco was chewing on a bully stick and I was trying to watch him. The next thing I know it was gone. I believe it was about 3-4 inches long. I am worried. He is about three months old and 25 lbs. should I be concerned and what should I look for if he needs to go to the vet.

The stomach acid does a pretty great job at dissolving bully sticks. However, if he seems to have any trouble Swallowing, if he won’t eat, or has any vomiting and/or diarrhea then I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. Best of luck and I hope he does well. Thank you for using Pet Coach.

That wasn't good of Draco to eat all the bully stick at once! Swallowing a big piece of it can cause a choking hazard, but you would have noticed that by now. This should break down in his stomach and not cause a problem, but if you do notice any vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, or lethargy, then I would be worried it's causing a problem and I would have him seen by a vet. Otherwise, he should be fine. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
