Why is my dog's eye droopy and closing? Is it a serious issue?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 8 years and 10 months old | 60 lbs

My dog’s right eye seems droopy & as if the eyeball is being pushed sideways toward the outer edge of her face. She’s starting to keep it closed sometimes. Should I be worried about a tumor or something?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. I highly recommend that you have Shadow evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Further therapy would be based on the findings. Good luck and best wishes!
