My new cat is limping, throwing up, and has diarrhea. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | 2 months and 10 days old

I just got my cat a week ago. Yesterday she was quite tired and slept a lot and this morning I woke up to her having diarrhea and throwing up, she hasn’t for over 12 hours now tho. She is eating and drinking fine but she seems to be limping. She doesn’t want to play and I’m not sure if it’s because her leg hurts or what

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Vomiting and diarrhea can occur secondary to conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, dietary indiscretion, parasites, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have Gracie evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. At the very least they can start her on medications to make her feel better and check her hydration status. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to prevent dehydration. Lameness can be a sign of a few things that range from a muscle sprain to even a fracture. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian so that this can be further assessed which will likely include radiographs. Treatment will be dependent on findings though at the very least pain control medications can be prescribed. Good luck and have a good day!
