My dog yelps after chasing a bunny. Could it be a muscle strain?

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Male | neutered | 48 lbs

Hi cope was chasing a bunny the other day which normally he doesnt do well he is not stiff and when he goes down the steps he yips nothing is swollen that i can see . What do you think it could be and what could we give him to ease the pain

Hi and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I am sorry that Cope is not feeling well. It sounds like he is pretty sore. He could have pulled a muscle or sprained something while chasing the bunny. I would NOT give him any over the counter medication. I would advise you to rest Cope for a few days- no jumping, no running, no rough housing. If he does not feel better in a few days then I would seek veterinary care as need a full physical examination to determine where the pain is coming from. Your veterinarian can get him pain or anti-inflammatory medication. If Cope does seem very painful, lethargic, or is not eating, I would seek veterinary care sooner. Good luck!
