My 3-month-old kitten has diarrhea and is not gaining weight, help?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 3 months and 3 days old | 2.5 lbs

I have a three month old kitten named Oscar and he has been having diarrhea for awhile now, we have taken him to the vet and they have giving us meds to give him but nothing seems to be working. Every two hours he meows because he is hungry, it seems as though the food goes right through him? All the food we give him should be making him get clunky but he is a twig! My family and I are worried sick and we rescued him so he could have a better life. Suggestions? I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I'm sorry that Oscar isn't doing well. I would discuss further diagnostic testing with your veterinarian. Oscar may need fecal samples and cultures or other testing sent to an outside lab if that hasn't already been done. Some kittens benefit from prescription diets to help with diarrhea and a probiotic such as Forti Flora may help. Oscar is a cutie. I hope he is feeling better soon.
