Why are dogs so attracted to tissues used to blow the nose after an adult uses the drug cocaine? Is it the smell? At a friends house my dog went and actively hunted down tissues the person had used and i had no idea and shredded said tissues. How dangerous can that be for the dog and why do they like to get ahold of said tissues? How dangerous and Or toxic can that “snot” be for them? Thank you

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is because the secretions are likely salty because of the mucus and have a flavor to them. Regardless, this could be serious as some of those secretions could have residues of cocaine. Signs of cocaine toxicity include restlessness, seizures and even death. This warrants a veterinary evaluation as soon as possible for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a great day!
