My dog's benign tumor is bursting. Will it go away on its own?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Labrador | Female | spayed | 66 lbs

My Labrador developed a tumor about 12 months ago. My vet did tests and informed me it was benign but because of it’s location surgery was questionable as there was no flesh to knit together. As my dog is 13 yrs of age it was agreed we leave alone. As you can see the tumor appears to hv reaches its limit and showing signs of bursting. Was I advised correctly and what can I expect to happen? Will it just burst and go away? Kind regards Dianne

This tumor will not go away on its own. I agree, it is located in an area that would make removal very difficult. If you wanted to remove the tumor at this point the only way would be to do an amputation of the forelimb.
