My cat is limping and licking her paw. What should I do if it's minor?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Female | spayed | 10 months and 20 days old

I noticed my cat was limping. Her paw doesnt appear to be broken but she continues to limp around and lick her paw. I assume she might have have a minor injury from either having something fall on it or maybe stepping on something. She lets us pick her and pet her. We went to buy spray Neosporin just to prevent any infection due to her licking it and also wrapped it in gauz so that she doesnt lick it. Her paw does seem slightly pink but not purple. Any suggestions on what i should do.

If it just started you can let her rest for a few days with minimal walking and minimal physical exercise, if it does not improve within 3-4 days you will have to take her to the vet in order to get it checked and treated, she might need pain killers for a few days. if the vet think it's something more serious such as a fracture, joint injury or foreign body, he might recommend to have an xray done as well.
