My cat's skin is dry and peeling after being lost. What's wrong?

Can I please know what's happening to my cat. He's been lost for a couple of days and went back home with his current condition. It's like his skin is drying and shedding out. Thank you.

This may due to an extremely severe allergy, a burn injury (so the skin which has fallen off died) but it could also be infection (bacterial or viral) or mites. An immediate check up is absolutely needed as antibiotic treatment and pain relief medications will be needed.
