My dog vomited blood & mucous after eating bees. Is she okay?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | spayed | 6 years and 5 months old | 103 lbs

I came home from work to find throw up spots outside from my dog. There are quite a few, they are kinda Mucousy and some have specks of blood in them. She is fine, acting normal eating and playing. I noticed my neighbor has a bee hive and she eats bees. Do you think it’s from that? (I’m going to tell them to remove it.) or do you think it’s something more serious. I called my vet but they can’t see me till next Thursday over a week away!!! If I have to I’ll take her to a 24 hour clinic.

I agree that Sahara's vomit looks like there may be blood in it. Given that she is fine, acting normal, and eating, I wouldn't rush her into a vet just yet. It could be she has eaten the bees, and they've stung the inside of her mouth leading to the blood. Keep an eye on her for now. If you notice her face swelling, she has trouble breathing, she becomes lethargic, she keeps vomiting, the amount of blood in her vomit increases, and/or she stops eating, then I would have her seen by a vet right away. Also withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. See if this bland diet helps with the vomiting. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
