My dog ate pizza and has an upset stomach. What can I do to help?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My dog got into some left over Pizza and ate about 6 pieces. You can tell that his stomach is upset and he wants to go out and pee about every 15 minutes. What can I do to help him?

That wasn't good that your dog ate all that pizza! The concern about that much pizza is that not only does it cause stomach upset, the fat can cause pancreatitis. I can give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps him. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

That much grease and fat can cause digestive upset so you may see some loss of appetite or vomiting/diarrhea. In some cases, a very fatty meal can lead to pancreatitis, which requires veterinary care. Signs include bloody vomiting or diarrhea, lethargy and loss of appetite, painful abdomen, or symptoms that do not resolve after a day or so.

Pizza is bad for your dog in that it is very fatty, and can cause GI upset or pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas). If you see GI upset, try this home remedy: Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.
