Why is my cat losing weight and not eating? What can I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed

I don't think my cat has been eating or drinking and shes been getting really skinny and i cant tell if she hasn't been eating or not because she shares a bowl with another cat and she's shared that bow for a while now and she still uses the litterbox so she might be eating but what could be some reasons on why she's not eating or why she's getting skinner and what are some ways I can get her to eat I already tried wetting her food and I still don't know if shes eating or not

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Scruffy. She will need to see her veterinarian if she has been losing weight. A blood and urine sample are likely going to be necessary. Depending on her age, she could be experiencing an internal problem such as kidney disease that is resulting in weight loss. If she is a young cat, however, then intestinal parasites could be to blame. This would be diagnosed with a fecal sample. In the meantime, you can try canned food and feed her separate from the other cat to see if she is consuming the food or not. I hope this information helps!
