It's really hard to tell from a picture, but that looks like a mass to me rather than a sore. I would recommend taking Django in for an appointment to have it sampled to make sure it's not cancerous. They will be able to use a needle to sample a few cells while he's awake - quick, non-painful, and generally not too expensive. Wishing you good news!
