Boxer dislocated leg: Vet suggests PT, but I need a second opinion.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Male | neutered | 64 lbs

My 6 year old male Boxer, dislocated his right front leg. Supposedly by jumping off the bed. BS, but my ex will never admit it. We share custody of him and a 3 year old female Boxer. Vet says it can be put back in with physical therapy. Which will take 3 times per week for 5-6 weeks. Everything I read online says, knock him out fix and sling for 2-3 weeks. I want a second opinion. I think the new girlfriend pushed him off the bed! At least it's not fractured.

It depends on how badly dislocated it is and how he's walking now. Since you're on the fence about it, I'd recommend getting a second opinion, possibly with an orthopedic specialist. Also, that's a fairly unusually injury. I would take everything you know about your ex and his new girlfriend and carefully consider whether Bronson is safe in that home. Accidents do happen, and a orthopedic specialist can give you a much better idea of how much force would have been required for that injury, but I think it's important to point out safety may be a concern. Wishing him a speedy recovery. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
