My cat threw up after acting strange. Seems better, should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | 6 lbs

My cat was acting out: hissing, not wanting to be touched, scratching, stuff out of the norm for her. Finally, after a few hours, she threw up twice within five minutes. After that, she seemed exceptionally better. She hasn't been lethargic, she's holding down water, she's eaten a small amount. Should I still be worried or has she likely cared for herself?

Time will tell with this one. Since she's eating, drinking, and not lethargic, you certainly don't need to seek emergency care tonight. If tomorrow she still seems out of sorts, or continues to vomit, I would recommend scheduling a vet appointment for exam and x-rays of her abdomen. Good luck and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!

Poor Baby! I would be worried too, as that is a fair number of times to vomit in such a short period of time. He could have a severe GI illness, may have eaten something toxic, could have a foreign body, or pancreatitis. Given how many times he's been vomiting, I think it's best that he is seen by a vet now. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.
