E-collar too short for dog's tail wound? How to keep him from licking?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Male | neutered | 1 year and 7 months old | 48 lbs

My dog has an open sore on his tail which is about an inch long and 1/2 wide - took him to local vat and he was treated and given a collar to wear - the collar was too short and he could still get to the wound - was told by vet that wound seemed to be healing ok but it seems worse today. Would rather not return to this vet - would like to see about alternative solutions. I need a longer collar or something to keep him away from the wound.

I am sorry to hear about Jodi. E-collars do come in different sizes so a longer one may be available. Sometimes we will also tape another e-collar to the edge of an existing one to make it longer. You can purchase the collars from the vet, online or at many pet stores.
