My dog has orange liquid diarrhea, strains, and whimpers. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed | 1 year old | 53 lbs

I'm not sure if its diarrhea but I've noticed my dog will sit in the position as if she's going to poop but its like straight liquid coming put and its bright orange and it seems as if at the same time she's constipated because I noticed she seems to be trying to push something out but when she does she like whimpers. Should I be concerned?

Poor girl. These are signs of colitis (inflamed colon), which can look like straining and liquid diarrhea coming out. In most cases, colitis can be caused by intestinal parasites or eaitng something the pet shouldn't have eaten. Yes i would be concerned and get DIzzi seen by your vet soon to get her tested for intestinal parasites and treated with antibiotics, potential dewormer medication and probiotics. YOu can start probiotics right now, Culturelle over the counter, to help her somewhat. Also you can add 1-2 tsp of canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) in her food daily to add fiber and firm up her stools some. The vet will then make sure she is properly treated for the underlying problem I hope that your Dizzi feels better soon! Best wishes and take care.
