First time canoeing with my dog? Tips for safety and life vest?

This Sunday I am going for my first canoe trip of this summer and I want to bring Sara to so that she gets used to it I was wondering if you guys have any tips to help ensure that she enjoys it or at absolute least does not panic and you guys think I should get her a doggie life vest even though she'll probably soon outgrow it

Sara is so cute! I definitely think that a doggie life vest would be a good idea. It will keep her safe. Whether or not it is safe to leave your dog at your sisters will depend on your dog. If he has never been around children before or has shown any aggression towards children, then it is less safe. No dog should be left unattended around children, so it is best if your dog hasn't been around the baby to keep it in an area separated from where the baby will be- either a separate area of the house or outdoors. Some dogs are fine with babies, others may be made anxious by the presence of a baby or they may view the baby as a prey due to small size and the funny noises the baby makes. Since your dog is so small, perhaps putting it in a pen inside your sister's house would work. He shouldn't be hard to contain due to his size. Whether you should bring him with you is going to depend on where you area going- do they allow dogs? will it be very hot outside? will you have to leave the dog in a car? It sounds like Skye is all squared away for her adventure. Just be aware of the temperature and her level of stress. Make sure she gets a break and is offered water. Begin with very small walks and increase the duration if she is tolerant of them. I would also make sure she is microchipped in case she gets loose.

Great question, and it's wonderful that you're being conscientious about this! The most important things are to provide a shady place for Bruno to relax & escape the sun, and to keep fresh water available at all times. If you're driving the boat & can't have water out (because it'll spill), just make sure there are frequent stops to offer water. As long as you do this, Bruno should do fine! That's a very good question. Honestly, I might ask your vet why they recommended that. I can't think of any reason that a puppy can't swim except for safety reasons. I used a lifevest for my puppy when he was young to be safe and NEVER allowed him unsupervised or with any other dogs. But I think it's a great idea for puppies to be exposed to swimming and is a great way for them to burn off some extra energy. Congrats on your new baby! I hope that was helpful! How long do you recommend 1st time at the beach with proper shelter and water. Should she be fed beforehand.
As long as she has shelter and water and doesn't seem stressed she could spend a few hours at the beach. Just be careful if it is very warm and she is excited that she doesn't over exert herself. Also make sure she is well hydrated to avoid her drinking sea water. I would feed her normal breakfast and make sure she has an hour to start digestion before she is running about.

I will soon be moving across the country to Washington and I want to make sure I have everything in order for Coraline. I know to have her complete records and a kit for when we make the trip but what else should I keep in mind?
Great question! I would make sure to mark out places along the way where you can stop to let her out to go potty. Coraline will probably need a potty break every four to six hours, and to stretch her legs. Make sure any hotels you stay in definitely accept animals, and call them to be sure. My parents made a reservation at a hotel recently that said on the website they accepted animals, but when they turned up with their cats, they were told the hotel didn't accept pets. Needless to say, they were quite upset and had to scramble to find a hotel that did accept pets. Because you mentioned that she likes to chew things in a previous post, I would note down vets and vet ER clinics in towns you stay overnight in just in case. You might want to take a few long drives with Coraline before the big trip just to make sure she doesn't get car sick. If she does, you can talk to your vet about prescribing medications to prevent that. I hope this all helps!

Hello and thank you for contacting Boop by Petco. Beau does not have to wear a life jacket for swimming, he will be able to swim well and safe without it. However, life jacket is an important precaution when he swims in unfamiliar waters, rivers with strong currents, deep lakes etc.

Hello and welcome to Boop by Petco. Having someone come to the house is a great idea, it will keep Canela happy in her own environment. Consider having the friend bring Canela for walks if they can. Also, consider calling and 'skyping' Canela while you are gone. Another thing to prepare for your vacation is to discuss with your vet and your emergency clinic that you are going away, and what you wish to happen with Canela in the event of an emergency. Stress can bring on some conditions (but you are doing everything to minimize this already which is great!), so giving your vet/the emergency vet your contact information, and some people will leave their credit card information with financial limits and wishes, so that if something happens in the middle of the night and you cannot be contacted Canela is given the care you desire. Best of luck on your vacation, and it sounds like you are prepped and Canela will be well taken care of!
