My puppy's belly is bloated and breathing fast. Could it be worms?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 9 months and 14 days old | 2 lbs

My was born April 11th and his stomach has become bloated. He hasn’t thrown up,cried/whined, or given me any problems when I touch or push lightly on his stomach. I’m worried because this is my first dog and he breaths very quickly when tries to sleep. He’s very active and eats regularly.

It could be that Mighty is suffering from intestinal worms which are common in puppies and would give a bloated appearance to the stomach. I would give him a deworming treatment now, and another in two weeks to kill all the worms. He should then be dewormed monthly until he is six months of age, and should be dewormed every three months thereafter. As for breathing quickly when trying to sleep, this can be normal and I wouldn't be concerned about it unless he's breathing quickly all the time. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
