Why are my Syrian hamster's ears getting worse, but he's not bothered?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My Syrian hamsters ears have started to look like this for the past 2 months but are getting worse and worse. However, he never seems irritated by them. What looks wrong with them?

I am sorry to hear about Rex! I would be concerned about possible skin mites causing these changes, or a vasculitis of the ears. I would recommend bringing him in to a vet who sees pocket pets for an examination. They may try to do a skin scrape or treat him prophylactically for mites.
