Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Female | spayed | 4 years and 5 months old | 27 lbs
My pug mix gets diarrhea whenever it’s gets to be warmer weather. I leave the air on for her but I was told because of her breed she is suseptable to over heating. What can I do to help her.? She is 4 and slightly over weight.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I'm sorry to hear Zeti is having stool issues. Overheating is always a concern in pugs as you mentioned, due to her being brachycephalic (the cute smushy faced dogs!). It is important in the hot summer months to limit their time outside in the heat and keep a cool area for them to be comfortable inside. She should also have free access to water during the day. If she is a little overweight, starting her on a diet food may also help, as the extra weight could be affecting her as well. For softer stools, adding in some extra fiber (such as pumpkin puree) may be beneficial. If the softer stools are persistent, you see any blood or she starts to act ill, I would recommend she be evaluated by her regular veterinarian. Good luck!
