My cat ate a mouse. Is it safe? Can he digest fur and bones?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 8 months old | 5 lbs

My cat ate a whole mouse yesterday leaving only the head and the tail. He hasn't vomited till now. Does it mean he can digest even the fur and the bones ? Will it cause a problem ?

Hi there. It's very common for cats to eat mice and other small animals - this does not normally cause any problems at all :) If Chimpu has only vomited once and is acting normal otherwise, there is probably no cause for concern. If he continues to vomit, or if he develops other symptoms such as not eating or acting lethargic, then I would recommend having him seen by a vet to determine what's wrong.
