Are Staffordshire Bull Terriers dangerous, or is it the owner's fault?

Doing a research about Staffordshire Bull Terriers and I need an expert opinion. What do you think about the dogs? Are they dangerous or is it the owner who makes them dangerous? Just generally your opinion on them. Please include name. Thank you

Every dog has the capacity to be aggressive, even breeds considered more gentle such as a Golden Retriever. I personally think it's more the owners that lead the dog to have terrible behavior, typically from a lack of training and obedience. Staffordshire Bull Terriers are not for novice dog owners, they required experienced dog owners who are firm and consistent. They can be great family dogs, as they are very loving, but they need early socialization. I strongly recommend that if you get one, you enroll it in puppy preschool and training so it can learn socialization and start on training it. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

It may be a little bit of both. I believe that a lot of aggressive behaviors can be prevented by the way the puppies are raised, but there are possibly heritable traits that could be passed along with breeding. I would avoid breeding aggressive dogs.

Oh, this is a serious problem you need to deal with right away. I'm very concerned that Ally is showing signs of aggression with the baby, and it could lead to him biting the baby. He needs to be put into training immediately with a professional behavioral expert to prevent this from occurring. Aggression in dogs is dangerous to work with, and it's best left to the experts. I would contact your vet for a referral to a behavioral expert right away. In the meantime, do not leave Ally unsupervised with your baby, and keep the baby away from him to be safe.

Great question! You are absolutely correct that it's about raising the dog correctly. German Shepherds can be excellent, friendly, wonderful family dogs, but you do have to make sure you start training them from the very beginning. They can be very stubborn and do require a lot of training, but if you are committed to socializing it, behavior classes, and being consistent, you can have a wonderful dog. I am afraid you have a serious problem which is likely to become a bigger problem when Tiger gets older. Unfortunately this is not something you can deal with as a lay person. You will need the help of a professional behavioral specialist. It is definitely not normal for puppies that young to attack other puppies and eat them. This may be a hereditary problem, ie Staffies used to be fighting dogs and Tiger just may have a very strong aggression potential. I suggest you separate Tiger from the other dogs, so that you do not lose any more puppies. I would like to know what good guarding breed is good for first time owners for a family with kids. The dog will live outside but we are active like 7 hours a day and get back by around 7. Please suggest a popular breed as i have been suggested breed
I do not recommend a Rottweiler or Bullmastif for a first time dog owner. These are very strong willed dogs, and are not ones that should ever be owned by someone who has no experience with dogs. A great family friendly dog is a Golden Retriever. While they aren't a guarding breed, you need to know that the typical guarding breeds are not suitable at all for first time owners. They can be aggressive if not trained and handled correctly, and that is not safe at all for your kids. A Golden Retriever is very smart, friendly to the family, but they do bark and can look after a family. I also don't recommend keeping a dog outdoors all the time. Best of luck, I hope this helps.

Hi there. I do not recommend this breed for anyone who is not an experienced dog owner, as in my experience they are often aggressive and difficult to manage even with good training and socialization. If your mom wants a dog for companionship, I would recommend a Labrador Retriever or Golden Retriever - both of these breeds are wonderful companion dogs, and are much less likely to have serious behavior issues to manage.
