My kittens have red eyes and seem sick. Is it serious? Do they need a vet?

okay my name is ashley i have a cat her name is gertrude and she just had kittens 3 weeks ago and some of her babies are sick and 2 of their eyes are red and just dont look right not sure if its just a little sickness that will go away or needs to be treated cause the momma cat had sneezes and just not sure if they just need some medicine or it will go away please let me know im very worried

Hi Ashley! Yes, the kittens will likely need medication, as they could have an eye infection causing the redness. The medication needed to treat them can only be gotten by prescription from the vet, so you need to call your vet to make an appointment for Gertrude and her kittens. I would call the vet first thing Monday. Best of luck.

It is possibly infected. It may just be inflamed. The two most common ocular problem in kittens is chlamydia and herpes. I suggest you have the kitten examined by a vet so it doesn't get worse. It can be serious.

These kittens need to see a vet, as it sounds like they have an eye infection. This cannot be treated at home. Eye infections can be contagious, so if the kittens are weaned, you can separate them from the other kittens and the mother. Please take the kittens into a vet first thing in the morning.

My kitten's eyes were a bit watery this morning and when I came home this evening they were quite red and he wasn't able to open his left one properly. It's after hours here, should I try to get an emergency appointment or wait until tomorrow?
Poor kitten! If you can, it would really be best to have him seen by a vet tonight, even if this means that you need to go to an emergency clinic. An eye problem like this is not usually life-threatening, but severe eye infections can sometimes cause permanent damage or even vision loss if they are not treated promptly - so the sooner he can see a vet and get started on medication to treat the problem, the better. If you aren't able to take him tonight, I would take him to your regular vet first thing in the morning. In the meantime, you can use a warm washcloth or cotton ball to gently clean away any discharge from the eyes to help make him more comfortable.

All the kittens have very crusty eyes with liquid oozing from them each day, and one of the kittens is very lethargic and sleeps nearly all the time. I'm thinking of bringing them to a vet and I'm worried they're going to pass
Poor kitties. It sounds like all the kittens have an upper airway infection, which is usually caused by a viral initially, that then turns into a bacterial infection. I do hope that these kitties make it. Taking them in to the vet is the best option here and will help them once they are prescribed some antibiotics to help clear up thier airway. Using a humidifer can also help them breathe a bit better. Best of luck with these precious kitties and I hope that they can start to thrive soon! Take care.

This is probably an upper respiratory infection. it's very common in young cats and is very contagious to other cats as well. It is treated with antibiotic eye drops/ointment and oral antibiotics for about 2 weeks. if left untreated many cats will end up blind or even die from the disease. I advise going to your vet asap to start the treatment right away.

They have a condition known as conjunctivitis, which is common in young cats. This is usually caused by an infection. It's best to get them veterinary treatment soon, or these infections can get quite severe and they could even lose their eyes. They will need an antibiotic eye medication three times a day for 14 days in order to treat this. I hope this helps and they get better soon.

This is usually treated with antibiotic eye drops and cats usually respond well to therapy. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. If they agree that based on an examination, that seems to be the issue, they will likely prescribe medications to make him feel better. For now, it would be best to keep the kittens separate as you investigate this further as in some cases, the causes of such infections can be contagious. Good luck and best wishes!

This is probably an eye infection, it's very common in cats and the kittens usually get that from their mother. unfortunately it requires antibiotic eye drops which you can only get from the vet, you will need to make an apointment with your vet in order to solve this issue.

Your kitten may have an eye infection. It would be best to have her seen by your vet as soon as possible for an exam. Eye problems should be addressed within the first 24 hours to make sure the problem does not get worse.
