Flea in my Yorkie's eye: Can I use contact lens solution to rinse?

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 5 months old | 5 lbs

Last night a flea went into my yorkie’s eyeball when I was bathing her. She pulled her head away when I tried getting it out and I lost it. Her eye isn’t showing no signs of it rather than there normal weeping, it is a little red under her lids. Also I was wondering is it ok to rinse and wash her eyes with eye solution that is used for contacts? Will it burn or soothe her eyes if it’s ok to use? If not what would you suggest?

I would use a sterile saline solution to rinse out her eyes. The eye solution used for contacts may contain ingredients that are not safe to use in Toodie's eyes or can irritate them. I hope this helps!

Poor Zoey! No, please don't put contact solution in her eye - this will not help to treat the problem, and may burn and cause additional discomfort. Brown or yellow discharge like this is usually a sign of an eye infection, or a corneal injury of some kind such as a scratch or ulcer. I would recommend taking Zoey to the vet today for an exam - he/she can use a special stain to check for any injuries to the eye, and will likely prescribe antibiotic eye drops or ointment to treat the problem.

Can contact lense solution Buffered Saline be used to wash dog eye ulcer with discharge?
I’m sorry to hear about Mikki’s eye! A saline contact rewetting drop like Blinks or Refresh contacts drops are fine for providing moisture. I would avoid contact solution because it often has other stabilizers and things in there. You want saline only. As a side note, this will not cure the ulcer (which is infected likely if there is discharge)- you’ll need an antibiotic eye drop or eye ointment from your veterinarian. However, it is nice for helping remove that discharge and for overall eye comfort. Mikki also needs an E-collar to prevent rubbing or scratching at the eye- which is a common reason they do not heal. There's fur in his right eye I dont think I should take it out and I dont have access to the vet for the next few days. I've tried to rake a photo but it won't show up
To get fur out of the eye you can use saline solution, which is usually available at a store or pharmacy near the contact lens solution. You can gently flush the eye and massage the eyelids to try and clear the fur. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

I was washing my dog with water and apple cider vinegar to remove fleas, they were mixed and unintentionally it has entered my dog's eye, it has not presented any symptoms and her eyes looks ok, but I am worried.
It's best if you can flush under the eyelid with normal saline. Saline flush can be bought at the pharmacy, or supermarket in the eye care section. You can make saline at home with salt and water if you don't have any, or you can't buy any. Below is a link to a saline recipe: https://intermountainhealthcare.org/ext/Dcmnt?ncid=520684503 Flush the eye for one minute and gently wipe away the discharge with a warm/moist cotton or cloth. This can be repeated daily as needed. It can also be very damaging to the skin and make things worse. There are better options for treating fleas and a local vet would be the best person to ask. Can i use human eye wash to clean dogs eyes
If it is just a saline eye wash than you can use it to clean her eyes. If she is having problems with her eyes than it would be a good idea to have a vet examine her to determine the cause. She may need medications to treat.

This can be used to clean Toodie's eyes temporarily. Ideally, she should be examined by your veterinarian or a veterinary ophthalmologist to diagnose the underlying cause of the weeping. This can be infection, injury, obstructed tear ducts or little hairs rubbing against her corneas.

Saline solution will help to wash out residue, but I would recommend that you have Max checked out by a vet ASAP. Some irritants can cause corneal ulceration or pretty intense pain (I got a face wash in my eye once and could barely open my eye). The vet will likely use a stain to check for any ulcers or damage to the cornea, and then prescribe medications to decrease the inflammation and pain. Dawn dish soap (or any soap, for that matter) will remove fleas on the skin, but it will not prevent more from jumping on after the bath. Fleas don't live on the dog, they only jump on for a quick bite to eat and then jump off to lay eggs.

What do I do if my dog has a small piece of fluff on his eye that won't come out
Hello. So sorry that Frodo is having this issue. You can certainly try to rinse the eye with saline solution. You can buy it at any chemist. Just like you would use for humans: http://www.pharmacyonline.com.au/reclens-normal-saline-500ml?icn=SLI-Search&ici=Reclens%20Normal%20Saline%20500ml Rinse the eye thoroughly with it open and then close the eyelids and massage gently. If the "fluff" does not come off then you should take him in to your vet for an exam. You don't want to mess around too much with an eye at home because you can really injure the eye if you do not know what you are doing.
