My dog has blood from his rear and is scooting. Is it anal glands?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 7 years and 9 months old | 48 lbs

My dog has blood coming from his butt not a lot like when he sits there will be some. I have taken a paper towel and wiped it and got some. This just started today he seems to be ok and has rubbed his butt on the carpet. He does this from time to time but never had blood. I am thinking it has something to do with his anal glands.

Poor Tank! It could be something with his anal sacs, as they could be impacted and/or infected. I would call a vet in the morning to make an appointment for him. The vet can examine his anal sacs and treat as needed. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Poor Duke! Yes, this certainly could be an issue with his anal sacs, and that would be very itchy to him. They may be impacted and need to be expressed. It could also be caused by intestinal worms, and he may need a deworming treatment such as Panacur if he isn't up to date on that medication. I would take him into the vet on Monday, as he sounds very uncomfortable. Bring along a sample of his feces for the vet to look for worm eggs in it. The vet can also check his anal sacs and express them as needed. I hope this helps!

Noticed few blood drops near anal region twice this week. Prior to that occasionally stinky fluid used to ooze from anus. Vet had suggested to clean anal gland every 15 days. Her liquid intake is really good, also daily fibre intake and exercises too
I would recommend checking a stool sample for parasites in a younger dog. Blood dripping from the rectum is not normal and should be addressed soon. I would ask your vet to do a rectal exam and check the anal glands. They could be infected or impacted and need medications to resolve this issue. However viruses can also cause bloody stool. A vet exam is best option. hope that helps

Ouch, poor Dudley! It could be he has growth on his anus or his anal sacs could be impacted and infected. Yes, definitely take him into a vet before his owner comes home. The vet can diagnose what is causing this swelling and bleeding, and can treat him for it. Best of luck, I hope this helps.

It could be these "butt pimples" you've heard people refer to are the anal sacs. These are two, small sacs located just inside the anus that release a smelly fluid when feces pass to help lubricate it on the way out. They can become impacted and then infected, and given your description, it is possible that Boy's have become infected. I would have him seen today by a vet. If they become too infected, they can rupture. The vet can examine his anal sacs, flush them out if needed, and prescribe antibiotics if there is an infection.

My dog has been walking around and sitting fast, seems to be in pain. My husband felt around the dogs anus gently and the dog yelped in pain. What could it be?
It could be his anal glands, he could have an infection or an impaction, i would recommend taking him to your vet to get it checked ASAP. if the anal glands are infected he will need a course of antibiotics, if they are impacted they will need to be manually emptied.

hello, my name is alisha. I have a 90lb staffie terrier that I had rescued from terrible living conditions , he was riddled with fleas and worms. since ive had him hes been treated for worms tested negative for heart worm and no longer has fleas. hi
Tank may still have fleas unless you are doing monthly flea prevention. He may also have impacted anal sacs, which would itch or hurt and make him scoot. I suggest you have him examined by your vet again. As impacted anal glands will need to be manually emptied to resolve the problem (not a big deal). These raw itchy spots may also be a sign of an allergy.

My dog had his anal glands expressed 3 days ago and still scooting/licking excessively. The area looks red and irritated. I feel bad for the poor guy!

My dog has a sore and is bleeding from around outside of anus area
This actually looks like an ulcerated tumor. It could also be an abscessed anal gland. You need to take Rommie to a vet for an exam and treatment. If it is a tumor he may want to take some tissue to determine whether it is benign or malignant. This will also determine how to proceed with treatment , especially since your dog is fairly old. If it is an anal gland abscess then it should be flushed and he will need antibiotics and pain medicine, Please take him to a veterinarian soon.

My dogs anus has started bleeding but not sure why. There are no vets around where we live. What do I do and what is it?
Based on the location, I am concerned that the left anal sac may be the cause for the bleeding. Dogs can develop anal sac abscesses, which is an infection of the anal sac (there are two located at the margin of the anus) that can rupture to the outside. These can be painful and will often require antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication to manage pain and allow healing. The other potential is an anal sac mass. Due to Ben's age I would be very concerned for this. Unfortunately there is not much that can be done from home for either of these conditions. It would be recommended to try to find the closest veterinarian to you and have Ben seen. If it is an anal sac mass, these often require surgery and have the potential to be malignant cancers.

The scooting is probably due to impacted anal glands, this is common in dogs suffering from diarrhea. i would recommend fasting your dog for 12 hours and then feeding him boiled chicken and rice in small quantities until you get him to the vet tomorrow.
