Why does my cat have diarrhea and bloody stool after vaccine?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Russian Blue | Male | neutered | 1 year and 10 months old | 12 lbs

I took my cat to a vaccination clinic today for some shots. Since coming home he has had some diarrhea and bloody stool. Other than seeming tired he is acting relatively normal. Is this stress or vaccine related?? Should I be immediately concerned? Thank you!

It can be stressed related from the vaccines causing Moshi's diarrhea and bloody stool. Given that he's acting relatively normal, I wouldn't be immediately concerned. I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps. I recommend withholding food for 12-24 hours, then feeding a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If this does not help the diarrhea and bloody stool, or he develops other symptoms such as anorexia, vomiting, and lethargy, then I would be concerned and take him into the vet. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
