Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Dogs can shed the virus for up to 14 days after they have clinically resolved the infection. The other problem with the parvo-virus is that it is very hearty, meaning that it can survive a very long time in the environment. It can survive freezing and high temperatures, therefore if you had a dog in your yard with parvo-virus, then any dog that comes into your yard for years later is at risk. Therefore you have to be very carefully with new puppies in your yard/house after having a dog with parvo. Make sure all animals are fully vaccinated. Best of luck with your little one!

Thanks for visiting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It’s good to hear that your pup is doing well after contracting such a deadly virus. He is one of the lucky ones. To answer your question, the virus can shed in a pets poop for 10-14 days after being cured; therefore I would recommend waiting 15 days before allowing him to be around other pets. Even then I would probably only have him around pets that you know are vaccinated. It wouldn’t hurt to wait a full 3 weeks before having him go to dog parks and walking trails. Best wishes with your puppy Prince and again it’s wonderful to hear a puppy success story from Parvovirus infection. Best wishes and take care.
