Why is my cat listless, weak, and not eating after normal vet blood work?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | 5 years and 11 months old | 10 lbs

My cat is very listless, wants to sleep all the time and not interested in much eating, drinking or playing. We took him to the local vet yesterday; they did a blood workup and it was normal; his temp was slightly elevated. He only wants to sleep and seems to be getting weaker. Is there any type of strange desease he may have? What can we do? Take him back to the vet? I am very worried. He is approximately 6-1/2 years old and neutered. Thank you for any insight you can give us. Pamela

Hi Pamela, Sometimes basic blood work does not give us all the answers we need. If your vet did not include any treatment, I would recommend contacting them and letting them know that Moxie has continued to do poorly. They may recommend trying fluids or some other medications or may recommend rechecking her temperature and examination, then considering some additional tests. Good luck! I hope that was helpful and that Moxie feels better soon. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
