My dog is scratching, has red spots, and hard skin tags. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 3 months and 28 days old | 15 lbs

My dog keeps scratching herself and is getting red spots everywhere. I’m not sure if she’s red because of her scratching or if it’s something else. She also has these small skin tags that look like pimples? I’ve only found three small ones. The are all hard. What could this be?

This is probably caused by an allergic reaction. first of all make sure you de-flea Maggie regularly every month with a high quality spot on (ex. Advantage) as fleas are by far the most common reason for these reactions. If the fleas are not the problem, it could be an allergic reaction to food or an environmental factor. this is more complicated to treat and will sometimes require medications such as Steroids, anti histamines or cyclosporin in order to stop the allergy.
